Barstow Man Arrested for an Armed Carjacking

BARSTOW – A 29-year-old man was arrested for carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon after, while armed, demanding a ride from a victim.

On March 5, 2017, at around 5:00 p.m. the suspect, later identified as Alejandro Martinez of Barstow pointed a gun at a victim and demanded that he drive him to the 35000 block of Birch Road. The victim complied with the demand in fear for his life. Once at the destination, Martinez forced the victim to get out of the car with him to speak with the resident. Authorities said that the conversation later around 10 minutes before Martinez was forced back into the vehicle. Martinez demanded that the victim drive him to another location.

The victim was ordered out of the vehicle and suspect Martinez warned him not to call the police or he would return to hurt him or his family. Martinez was learned to be involved in a February 22, 2017, vehicle theft from an acquaintance in the 33000 block of C Street in Daggett. On Tuesday, March 21, 2017, Martinez was found to be staying at a home in the 21000 block of Minnetonka Road in the Town of Apple Valley.

Apple Valley Police Deputies and the Special Enforcement Division responded to the home to arrest Martinez. He was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Carjacking, grand theft auto, assault with a deadly weapon and parole violation.
