BARSTOW – A 37-year-old Barstow man was arrested after attempting to rob a victim early Sunday morning.
The victim told authorities that he was sitting in his vehicle at around 6:45 A.M., after driving to the 1200 block of Barstow Road to visit his friend. A black male subject walked up to the driver’s side door and pointed a gun at him. He continued, ordering him out of the vehicle and demanding his money. The victim complied with the suspect’s demands and exited the vehicle. Fearing that he would be shot, he removed the property from his pocket attempting to show the suspect that he did not have any money. As he removed the contents of his pockets he dropped his keys. He attempted to pick his keys up and the suspect struck him on the mouth with the gun causing a laceration to his mouth and a chipped tooth.
After the assault, the suspect fled the area to a nearby apartment without taking any property from the victim. The victim described the suspect to the officers and at around 9:18 a.m. as the officers were conducting surveillance on the apartment complex, they saw a person who matched the suspect description. He exited the apartment and got into a vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted near Starlight Street and Deseret Avenue. The driver was identified as Joseph Robert Brady. Suspect Brady was identified by the victim as the person who robbed and struck him with the firearm.
During a search of the apartment where Brady was located a BB gun that resembled a semi-automatic Beretta handgun. The gun was collected as evidence. Joseph Brady was arrested and later booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail in Barstow for Attempted Robbery and Assault Causing Great Bodily Injury.
