BARSTOW – The burglar alarm at the Q-Mart Store in Barstow led to the arrest of a would-be burglar early Monday morning.
At around 2:55 a.m. Barstow Police were dispatched to the store located at 600 West Main Street in Barstow reference an audible burglar alarm. The alarm company indicated that the alarm was activated due to a rooftop hatch signal. Officers arrived at the location within minutes to find a man in dark clothing attempting to flee from the rear of the store. Jason Jaramillo, 44, of Barstow, was taken into custody and was found to have a pry bar in his possession.
“ Barstow Fire Protection District responded to the scene and assisted officers to gain access to the roof,” Barstow Police officials said. “On the roof, officers located several pry marks on the hatch where the burglary alarm activated. Officers checked the pry bar Jaramillo had in his possession against the marks left at the rooftop hatch and saw that the marks were consistent with a pry bar.” Jaramillo was arrested and transported to the Barstow Station for questioning.
Through investigation, it was learned that Jaramillo never gained access to the interior of the store and climbed off of the roof as soon as the alarm activated. Once off of the roof he ran toward the front of the store where officers had just arrived on scene and immediately took him into custody. Following the questioning, Jaramillo was booked into the Barstow Jail for Attempted Burglary.
