BARSTOW – A 19-year-old Barstow man was arrested on Saturday after leading deputies on a quad pursuit authorities said.
At around 12:09 a.m. a Barstow Station deputy noticed a man riding an off-road quad on Barstow Road with no lights or helmet. The rider, showing no regard for the safety of others as he rode down the busy street. The deputy feared for the safety of the rider, as well as other motorists so he initiated a traffic stop.
The rider, later identified as Edward Marques did not stop when the deputy activated his lights and siren. He drove into a residential area adjacent to the Barstow Sheriff’s Station. Other deputies responded to assist. Marquez turned into the dead-end and was trapped, but fled on the foot. A deputy quickly caught up to Marques and took him into custody near Barstow Road and Mountain View Road.
It was determined that the quad was reported stolen. Marquez was booked into the Barstow Jail for vehicle theft and failure to yield to a police vehicle. He is being held in lieu of $110,000 bail.
