BARSTOW, Calif. – A 22-year-old Barstow man was arrested for the stabbing of two people on Sunday morning at around 8:18 a.m.
Barstow Police responded to the 300 block of Grove Street in the City of Barstow for the report of a stabbing. When they arrived they found a male and a female with stab wounds. The male victim had multiple stab wounds, while the female only had a single stab wound to her arm. Officers provided first aid while paramedics responded shortly after to provide aid. The male victim sustained life-threatening stab wounds and was rushed to Barstow Community Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. The female was treated at Barstow Community Hospital for her injuries also.
The suspect was identified as Juan Velasquez. It was learned that Velasquez went this his ex-girlfriend’s home and found her in bed with another man. The other man, identified as Jose Galindo, 25, of Barstow, was lying in the bed when Velasquez stabbed him multiple times. The woman tried to stop him and was stabbed in the arm. Velasquez fled from the location in his 2005 Silver Scion XB. Officers began searching for his vehicle but they were not immediately able to find it. At around 9:47 a.m. the suspect vehicle was located near his home in the 1700 block of Sunrise Road.
Officers surrounded the area and made contact with those in the home. They learned that Velasquez’s sister took him to the police department to turn himself in. They returned to the Police Department where they found Juan Velasquez in the lobby and subsequently arrested him. Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to assume the investigation.
“Detectives and Evidence Technicians processed the scene and collected evidence related to the stabbing,” Barstow Police Captain Andrew Espinoza Jr. said in a written statement. “Detectives also served a search warrant at the residence of Juan Velasquez and collected additional evidence related to the stabbing incident.”
It is unclear if the murder of Jose Galindo is related in any way to the June 10, 2019, shooting death of his brother, Emmanuel Galindo.
Juan Velasquez was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for Murder. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Tuesday morning.
