BARSTOW – A longtime Barstow resident was killed after an intentional hit-and-run vehicle versus bicyclist collision on Monday afternoon. Barstow Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of East of Main Street in the City of Barstow for the report of the collision. The reporting party told the dispatcher that the vehicle involved fled southbound on Muriel Drive.
When they arrived at the scene they found the man, later identified as 40-year-old Bennett Warner suffering with serious injuries. Barstow Fire District Paramedics arrived shortly after to provide medical aid to the victim and to transport him to Barstow Community Hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, Warner died as a result of his injuries.
Barstow Police Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians responded to the scene to assume the investigation. Evidence relating to the collision was collected, while additional detectives canvassed the businesses in the area to locate witnesses. Through investigation, detectives learned that the driver of the vehicle approached Warner while he was riding his bicycle westbound on Main Street, The driver and Warner argued and the driver followed Warner to a parking lot at 1000 East Main Street, accelerated and intentionally ramming Warner forcing him into a parked vehicle. He then fled southbound on Muriel Drive, leaving Warner at the scene with major injuries.
The witnesses were able to describe the vehicle as an older black model pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet S-10 that had red or primer markings in the front. Surveillance footage was also obtained capturing portions of the collision and the suspect vehicle. The investigation led authorities to 22-year-old Barstow resident Raymundo Alberto Rodriguez-Cordova. Detectives are asking for help to located Cordova and/or his vehicle.
