BARSTOW – The Barstow Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a male suspect who stole a purse from an elderly woman in the 1900 block of East Main Street in Barstow.
On Monday, July 9, 2018, at around 2:42 p.m., Barstow Police responded to a call reporting a strong-arm robbery that had just occurred. The reporting party told dispatchers that the 20-30-year-old male suspect grabbed the purse from the 68-year-old woman and ran eastbound on Main Street. Officers began searching for the suspect who was described as a Black man who was around 5’10” to 6’0” tall, 170-180 pounds, with black hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a blue cap, a grey shirt, and grey pants.
Additional officers responded to the area and learned that the victim was attempting to get into her vehicle when the suspect grabbed her purse. The woman attempted to pull her purse back but was not strong enough to prevent him from overpowering her and gaining possession of her purse. The suspect fled eastbound on Main Street with the purse. Officers canvassed the area and were unable to locate the suspect. Surveillance video captured a slightly blurry image of the suspect. The suspect is facing charges including strong-arm robbery and elder abuse.
If anyone can identify the person depicted in the surveillance photo, please contact Officer Ragle at the Barstow Police Department, (760) 256-2211. Those wishing to remain anonymous may also call the WE-Tip hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME or may report information on We-Tip’s website at www.wetip.com.
