FONTANA, Calif. – An 11-year-old boy died in a bicycle accident in the City of Fontana on Sunday.
The kids were riding their bikes inside an apartment complex when the victim fell off of his bike after his front tire collided with the back tire of his 8-year-old friend’s back tire. The boy struck the handlebars and fell from his bicycle. At around 3:00 p.m., Fontana police and emergency medical personnel responded to the 9200 block of Citrus for the report of a bicycle collision.
The boys mother attempted to transport him to the hospital in her private vehicle, but stopped at San Bernardino and Juniper where she called for medical aid. Paramedics arrived and provided aid to the victim and rushed him to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. Fontana PD’s MAIT team responded and handled the investigation.
“Neither child was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision but it does not appear to be a factor in his injuries,” Fontana Police said. “This is a tragic accident and our thoughts are with the families involved. Please take this time to talk about bicycle safety with your children.”
