APPLE VALLEY – The Town of Apple Valley has named their Public Relations Specialist, Charlene Engeron as the employee of the quarter. Charlene Engeron has been employed in her position for six years and is usually behind the scenes sharing the story rather than in this case being the subject of the story. From construction to entertainment, to anything else you can imagine the public needing to know, Charlene shares it all keeping the public informed.
“Responsible for several areas that directly impact the way our citizens view the Town, her work always paints us in a positive light,” said Director of Communications Kathie Martin. “The Our Town Newsletter and community calendar are two prime examples of her work that are always highly anticipated and well-received by our residents.”
Charlene shares the news of upcoming engineering in the town, including several recent major projects including Safe Routes to School, Mojave River Walk, the Yucca Loma Bridge to name a few. Working closely with staff, writing press releases, posting to social media, and creating status/overview videos are just some of the vital tasks Charlene is responsible for. Informing citizens about upcoming events and about construction zones are important for both community contentment and safety.
Town officials said that Charlene is not only valued as their co-worker, but as their friend. Charlene is the mother of Kayla, who is 16-years-old, an active Girl Scout, and as brilliant as her mother when it comes to her education. Charlene is also a member of a Kiwanis Club of Apple Valley and has volunteered with the Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council for nine years.
Charlene has been married to her high school sweetheart, Ernie, since 1993, the same year she began calling the High Desert her home. This was the same year Charlene completed her bachelor of arts degree in communications at California State University, San Bernardino. She began her 10-year career as a journalist and moved on to public relations. She has worked with the Town of Apple Valley since March 2008.
Nominations for Employee of the Quarter are submitted by peers or management and honorees are selected by a committee.
