RIVERSIDE – A sex offender who was wanted after cutting off his GPS ankle monitoring device was arrested on Friday afternoon authorities said.
Convicted sex offender, Gabriel Vasquez, 43, of Anaheim, was located in the 1700 block of Main Street in the City of Riverside at around 4:30 p.m. When officers arrived at the home they approached the home and noticed Vasquez in the driveway. Vasquez saw the approaching officers and left the back of the home onto the Fremont Elementary School property. A perimeter was established while air support and the K-9 responded to assist.
“After an extensive search of the school grounds, the parolee was located by K-9 Rocco,” Riverside Police officials said. “He was found hiding in thick brush and taken into custody.” Vasquez was arrested for violation of probation and resisting arrest. He was taken to the hospital to be cleared medically, then booked into jail.
