APPLE VALLEY – Authorities are seeking the public’s help to identify the owner of a Winchester gun safe that was found pried open and abandoned in the middle of the road on Friday morning.
At around 7:20 a.m. deputies from the Apple Valley Station responded to the 13600 block of Tonikan Road for the report of a large gun safe in the middle of the road. When they arrived they found the empty safe which had apparently been pried open by an unknown tool. Deputies investigated and no victim or suspect has been identified.
The type and safe does not match any that have been reported stolen in the Town of Apple Valley and authorities believe that it may have been stolen from a surrounding community. The Apple Valley Station officials are hoping that when the rightful owner is located, that information can be collected that may lead to the suspect(s).
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Deputy Jasen Malocco or Sergeant James Evans at (760) 240-7400. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-Tip Hotline a 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or you may leave information on the We-Tip Hotline at www.wetip.com.
