CORONA – A 16-year-old male Corona High School student was arrested after being found with a loaded handgun on campus on Friday afternoon.
Just after noon on Friday, a teachers aid received information that the student was in possession of the handgun and reported it to the Corona Police School Resource officer. The male student, who was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun was quickly located and arrested without incident. The handgun was being carried in the waistband of the student at the time of his arrest. It is unknown how the student obtained the handgun, but detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
Authorities do not believe the student had any plan to injure students or staff at the campus. No one was injured as a result of the incident. Police are pleased that the incident was reported by the person who provided the information about the gun to school officials.
The Corona Police Department will have an extra officer, in addition to the School Resource Officer, on campus at Corona High School through Tuesday. If you have further information about the incident, please call 951-817-5837.
