JOSHUA TREE – A death investigation is underway as a result of an inmate death at the Morongo Basin Jail on Friday.
At around 9:00 p.m. during a routine log check in the inmate housing area at the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station Jail, Henry Simmons, 60, of Joshua Tree was found unresponsive in his single-person cell. He was pronounced deceased at the jail. An autopsy was performed on Monday by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of his death. The cause and manner of death has not yet been released
Prior to his death, Simmons was booked into the jail for being under the influence of an undisclosed controlled substance at the High Desert Medical Center on Friday afternoon at around 12:50 p.m.
