CRESTLINE, Ca. – A 27-year-old Crestline man was arrested for the murder of Sammy Lee Davis at the Goodwin’s Market.
On Thursday, July 11, 2019, at around 9:15 p.m. deputies were called to Goodwin’s Market for the report of shots fired. When they arrived they found Davis on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. An off-duty nurse provided medical aid to Davis, who was subsequently transported to St. Bernadine Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 10:12 p.m.
Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. On Friday, August 9, 2019, Alex Opmanis, 27, of Crestline, met with detectives to provide a statement. Detectives determined that Opmanis’ statements were inconsistent with the evidence gathered and placed him under arrest for the murder of Sammy Davis. Opmanis remains in custody at the Central Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
