DESERT HOT SPRINGS – A plan to murder both civilians and police officers was stopped when the planner, a Desert Hot Springs man, was arrested on Friday.
An acquaintance of Oscar Rene Parra Rincon, 39, told employees at a Desert Hot Springs business that the suspect had obtained ammunition and was planning to hunt and ambush police officers. He planned on shooting random civilians in order to cause a police response. He then planned to shoot the responding officers.
The suspect was located in the 68000 block of Calle Azteca, where the home was surrounded. Rincon surrendered and was arrested by DHSPD, the Coachella Valley Gang Task Force and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. He is being held at the Banning Jail for Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, Possession of Ammunition by Prohibited Person and Violation of Probation.
