HESPERIA – Hesperia Police again were put in the situation where they were forced to make the decision to shoot a dog on Tuesday.
At around 1:15 p.m. deputies from the Hesperia Station arrived to the home on the 2000 block of Fremontia Road in Pinon Hills for a search warrant that was part of a fraud investigation.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Officials said that the suspect(s) were accused of stealing checks from the mail and forging information in order to cash checks. While on the property serving the warrant deputies noticed a tethered Pit Bull dog that was on a clothesline style tether displaying aggressive behavior.
The dog then freed him/herself from the tether and charged at Sheriff’s personnel. The deputy felt as though their safety was in jeopardy and fired a shot at the dog once in the chest. The dog was picked up by Animal Control, and received veterinary care for the non-life-threatening injuries. The owner is aware of where the dog was taken for care and according to Sheriff’s officials the dog was kept on the tether by its owners due to its aggressive nature.
Detectives are actively working on this case and will release additional information as it becomes available. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Hesperia Station Detective Division at (760)947-1500.
