VICTORVILLE – An Adelanto family is understandably distraught following the sudden death of two of their young children on Saturday night.
On Saturday, February 18, 2017, at around 8:35 p.m. an Adelanto family was driving in a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. The family was heading northbound on Amethyst Road driven by the children’s father, 35-year-old Pedro Basua. Mr. Basua attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Mojave Drive when a 1996 Ford Taurus, driven by 18-year-old Adelanto resident Jeremy Cannon was heading eastbound at or around the 60 mph speed limit.
The Taurus t-boned the Hyundai, with the force ejecting 12-year-old Pedro Basua Jr. who was pronounced dead at the scene. Inside the vehicle the mother and two other children remained, an 11-year-old boy, who was injured and 10-year-old Teresa Basua, who was found unresponsive. Despite effort to resuscitate the young child, Teresa was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The 11-year-old Basua child, and both parents were transported to the hospital for the treatment of injuries. The driver and the rear passenger or the Ford Taurus were also transported to the hospital. The front passenger of the Taurus did not report any injuries and left with family at the scene.
The family is heartbroken and attempting to cope with the loss of their young children. A Go Fund Me Account has been set up on their behalf in order to help them provide a proper burial for not one, but two of their young children.
