RIVERSIDE – A restaurant employee is in critical condition after being stabbed by a transient Thursday evening. Riverside police were dispatched to the Wienerschnitzel restaurant located at 5775 Van Buren Boulevard for the reported stabbing. Emergency medical personnel and police responded to find the male victim who was suffering from a single stab wound to his upper torso.
Through witness statements and investigation it was learned that there was some form of verbal altercation between the victim and the suspect in the outside dining area prior to the stabbing. The employee asked the 55-year-old male transient to leave, causing the suspect to stab him before fleeing the scene.
The victim was transported by ground ambulance where he remains in critical but stable condition. Police were able to locate the suspect near Arlington Avenue and Pegasus Drive in the City of Riverside. Mario Burton was booked into jail for attempted murder.
Detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact Detective Mike Medici at (951) 353-7104.
