RIVERSIDE – Firefighters responded to a fire at the Meineke Tires located at 2650 East Alessandro Boulevard in the City of Riverside on Saturday. At around 2:36 a.m. dispatchers received numerous reports of fire coming from the roof of the business. Due to the multiple callers, CalFire and the Riverside County Fire Department also responded to the location. When they arrived they located the business and confirmed that there was fire showing from the roof above the repair garages.
Calfire units arrived and assisted with the fire attack, ventilation, and the primary search of the structure. “Both agencies were challenged with communications initially with the Riverside City VHF frequency being inoperable,” City of Riverside Fire officials said. “Challenged with communications issues, the incident communications were conducted on Riverside County Tactical Channels. The City of Riverside Fire Department personnel utilized their VHF Portable Radios.”
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the roof and attic, saving approximately $750,000 in property with an approximate $20,000 loss as a result of the fire, smoke, and water damage. A business representative responded to the scene. The fire remains under investigation, there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
