Fontana Men Arrested for Attempting to Rob A Man Who Was Pumping Gas

FONTANA – Two 18-year-old Fontana men were arrested for attempting to rob a man as he was pumping his gas at a Fontana gas station early Sunday morning.

At around 4:30 a.m. police responded to the gas station in the 8900 block of Sierra regarding the attempted armed robbery. The victim, a 21-year-old man was pumping gas when the suspect approached him from behind. The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet and keys. The victim pushed the suspect and ran into the business while the suspect got back into a waiting vehicle and fled. As he fled, the victim snapped a couple of pictures of the suspect vehicle and license plates.

Hours later, at 7:00 a.m. officers learned that the vehicle returned to the gas station. An area check was conducted and the occupied suspect vehicle was located at a nearby apartment complex in the 16300 block of Merrill Avenue. Inside the vehicle, officers made contact with Andrew Villa and Magdiel Valenzuela. Authorities said that one of the suspects was found with a loaded magazine in his pocket and a firearm was found hidden inside the vehicle.

Both Villa and Valenzuela were booked into the West Valley Detention Center for attempted robbery. They are being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and are scheduled to appear at the Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court on Tuesday morning.
