SAN BERNARDINO – Two Fontana men were convicted of the first-degree murder of an 18-year-old Fontana man and will now face 50 years to life in prison.
Three were charged with the murder of an 18-year-old Fontana man who was riding his bike in the 16700 block of San Bernardino Avenue on April 19, 2015. Over a week later, on April 30, 2015, police attempted to stop a black Lexus that matched the suspect vehicle description, but the driver continued on leading to a pursuit in San Bernardino. The vehicle eventually stopped the vehicle on E Street and Orange Show Road in the City of San Bernardino. David Ernesto Avina who was 26 at the time of the arrest and Aureliano Mendez who was 18, were both arrested for murder.
Evidence was collected from the suspect vehicle, including weapons. A 17-year-old was also arrested and charged, but information for that suspect is not available.
