The USDA summer lunch program is made available so that children up to 18 years of age are able to have a nutritious breakfast and lunch over the summer break. Local schools, as well as other organizations, provide the meeting place and the nutritious meal is provided by the USDA. The program is of significant importance due to the fact that many children in the United States do not have sufficient food in their homes and the summer months are especially difficult for both those with and without SNAP (food stamp) benefits.
Several Victor Valley school district schools are participating in the program for breakfast, lunch, or both meals.
