DALLAS, Ga.– A 4-year-old boy accidentally shot his 6-year-old sister in the head causing major injuries authorities said.
On Monday, April 8, 2019, at around 5:47 p.m. deputies responded to 158 Laurelcrest Lane in the City of Dallas for the report of a shot child. When deputies arrived they found the small girl with a wound to the head. The girl was rushed to an Atlanta hospital where she remained in critical condition until she died as a result of her injuries on Wednesday April 10, 2019.
Detectives interviewed the mother of the children who said they were loading up the vehicle to leave home but the car would not start. The mother got out of the vehicle to see why the vehicle would not start. She heard the shot. Upon investigation, it was determined that the 4-year-old boy got the handgun from the console of the vehicle and accidentally shot it hitting his sister in her head while the two were in the vehicle in the driveway of the home.
On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, detectives were made aware that Millie Drew Kelly, the victim had succumbed to her injuries. “We want to remind everyone to keep their firearms unloaded and secured in an area away from children to ensure that this never happens again,” said Sheriff Gulledge said.
A fund has been set up to assist the family as they attempt to heal from the unexpected tragedy.
