RIVERSIDE – Several bystanders rescued an injured driver from a burning vehicle on Monday afternoon. Just after 1:00 p.m. the Riverside Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) responded to a single vehicle traffic collision at Alessandro Boulevard and Mission Grove Parkway. The reporting party told dispatchers that the vehicle was on fire and the driver of the vehicle was inside of the vehicle trapped.
The injured driver was removed from the vehicle by three to four bystanders before the fire department arrived. The engine compartment fire spread to the palm tree and threatened seven other nearby palm trees as well as the Western Municipal Water District water efficiency garden at 450 E. Alessandro.
Eleven firefighters were able to gain control over the fire within approximately 15 minutes. The patient was transported to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
