HESPERIA – Not everyone is cheerful with at-door solicitors, but a 72-year-old Hesperia man took this to a whole new level shooting toward the sales representatives on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 1:45 p.m. deputies from the Hesperia Police Department were dispatched to the 10000 block of Oakwood Avenue reference a man with a gun. When they arrived the located the victims who led them to the home of suspect Benny Hernandez. Deputies went to the home to make contact with Hernandez, who was in his front yard, but he became uncooperative. Hernandez went into his home and refused to come out.
Being aware that Hernandez was armed and possibly dangerous, a perimeter was set up around his home. Public Announcements were made ordering Hernandez to exit the home with his hands up. Approximately two hours later, Hernandez surrendered and was taken into custody. It was determined that the sales representatives went to his home. Hernandez came out of his home with a weapon, later learned to be a BB type long gun, and fired it toward the victims. No one was injured as a result of the incident.
Hernandez was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Assault with a Deadly Weapon (other than firearm). He was released on bail early Thursday morning and has no court dates scheduled at this time.
