FONTANA – Authorities are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect in a 2002 murder. On August 23, 2002. At around 7:09 p.m., Patrick Bailey, 35, of San Bernardino, was shot and killed in the 14600 block of Hunter Street in the City of Fontana. Homicide detectives thoroughly investigated the murder, but in 2003 the case remained unsolved.
On March 1, 2017, the case was reopened and witness interviews were again conducted. During an interview, 21-year-old Victorville resident Julian Morales was identified as the person who shot and killed the victim. Additional interviews confirmed that Morales was, in fact, the shooter. Andrew Rodriguez, of Fontana who was 27-years-old at the time of the homicide, was identified in being in the green vehicle with Morales.
There was a third suspect, a Hispanic man who remains unidentified. Investigators do have leads on the third suspect, but urge other witnesses to com forward. Morales died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on December 5, 2003, and Rodriguez died as a result of medical conditions on November 19, 2004.
