HESPERIA – A Hesperia sex offender was arrested for attempting to lure female victims to his home under false pretenses with the intent to commit a sexual act.
On Thursday, January 10, 2019, just before 1:20 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia Station contacted Arturo Martinez, age 42, at his home located in the 7600 block of Corona Avenue in the City of Hesperia. Martinez is a sex offender registered for Indecent Exposure. Hesperia Station deputies contacted Martinez as a result of receiving numerous complaints from females, including a 17-year-old female victim who were lured to his home.
The female victims reported that he would get the women to his home using a fake name and sometimes disguising his voice as a female. The victims were females offering babysitting, cleaning, real estate, and delivery-type services in the cities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Phelan, and Victorville. When the victims got to his home, they learned that Martinez did not want the offered services but intended to commit a sexual act with them.
A search warrant and arrest warrant for Martinez was served on his home leading to recovered evidence relating to the victim’s accusations. Martinez was arrested for Contact with a Minor with the Intent to Commit a Sexual Act. Martinez was booked at the High Desert Detention Center and is being held on $500,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Monday, January 14, 2018.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims and are releasing photos of Martinez. Anyone with information regarding similar incidents which might be related to Martinez is urged to contact the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station.
