HESPERIA – A male subject coming into Desert Valley Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg led to the finding that he had been shot by his uncle authorities said.
At around 5:22 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017, deputies from the Hesperia Station were called to respond to Desert Valley Hospital. When they arrived they learned that the shooting took place at the home of James Martin, 59, which is in the 11500 block of Hawthorne Avenue in the City of Hesperia. Martin and his nephew had got involved in a verbal altercation leading to Martin producing a handgun. The two began to struggle causing the handgun to discharge, striking the victim in his leg.
A search warrant was issued for Martin’s home, but Martin was not location and an arrest warrant for assault with a deadly weapon was issued. Hours later, in the 12800 block of Petaluma Road Martin and a woman were contacted during a stop. Martin was taken into custody and authorities said that they are unclear if the woman was involved in any way. The male victim was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
