VICTORVILLE, Calif. – A tattoo artist who drugged and raped at least one female victim will only serve around one more year in prison.
According to a Hesperia Sheriff’s news release, Henry Richard Camarena Jr., 43, of Hesperia, sexually assaulted a female customer on May 31, 2017. The victim reported the incident the following morning. She told authorities that she went to get a tattoo from Camarena, who was the owner of Team Art Collective Tattoo in the City of Hesperia when she was sexually assaulted.
The incident was investigated, including a search warrant executed at Team Art Collective Tattoo where evidence corroborating the victim’s statements was collected. The evidence collected was sufficient to obtain an arrest warrant for Camarena, who was located at a Baldwin Park Home. He was booked into jail for Rape of an Incapacitated Person. A second female who was also a customer, came forward in September 2017, per court records and told authorities she was also raped in August 2016.
Camarena pleaded no contest to Rape of an Unconscious Victim and Sexual Battery. On Tuesday, June 18, 2019, Camarena was sentenced to 6 years in prison. He was credited 743 days for time served plus 743 days for conduct credit, totaling approximately four years. The remaining two years will be served at a 50% credit rate, meaning Camarena should spend approximately one more year in prison. In addition, he will be required to pay $2000 in Victim Compensation.
