Hesperia Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Leaves Pedestrian with Life-Threatening Injuries

HESPERIA – Santa Fe Avenue E between El Centro and Mission Road in the City of Hesperia were closed late Thursday morning for a hit-and-run vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

The reporting party indicated that a male pedestrian, possibly a juvenile was struck by a wrong-way driver in a blue Chevrolet Corsica at around 11:35 a.m.  The driver, who was followed by a witness, reportedly continued on without regard for the pedestrian left lying in the roadway.

The patient who was in full arrest at the time of transport was taken by ground ambulance to Desert Valley Hospital. The vehicle was located near C Avenue and Yucca Street just moments following the 911 call. According to witnesses at the scene, the driver who appeared to be under the influence was detained at the scene. It is unclear if the person detained was arrested at this time, but he was confirmed by authorities to be a suspect.

The Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team MAIT will remain at the scene for several hours to conduct the investigation. Once the preliminary investigation is complete additional information will be updated.
