HIGHLAND – A 26-year-old Highland man was arrested on Friday for the abuse of a 2-year-old nephew, officials said. On July 14th Baldridge and his girlfriend took the small child to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital with a swollen shut black eye. During treatment, doctors found that the child had sustained extensive injuries including a severe brain injury as a result of a traumatic head injury.
A Forensic Pediatrician was called to assist in the care and investigation. The pediatrician found that the child had bleeding to his brain, a lacerated liver, a fractured skull and numerous bruises throughout his body. He was admitted and remains in the Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. Authorities said that Baldridge’s account of how the child was injured was not consistent with the injuries sustained.
The victim is currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. Due to the injuries, the child sustained, Baldridge’s two biological children were placed in protective custody with Children and Family services. Detectives interviewed Baldridge on Friday and at the conclusion of the interview he was arrested for Child Endangerment charges, causing great bodily injury.
Baldridge was booked into the Central Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $500,000. He is scheduled for arraignment at the San Bernardino Superior Court on Tuesday.
