HIGHLAND, Calif. – A 21-year-old Highland mother was arrested for hitting her 2-year-old child with a belt.
Hospital staff at St. Bernardine Medical Center reported injuries to the toddler that appeared to be as a result of child abuse on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at around 11:00 a.m. During the call to authorities, hospital staff reported that they believed that Aujanee Harrison, the child’s mother, was the possible suspect.
The Highland Station deputy arrived at the scene and made contact with Harrison and her young child. The child had visible injuries including bruising, lacerations, and swelling to the child’s face and body. During the investigation, Harrison told the deputy that she has used a belt to discipline the toddler several times a week during the past six months. It was determined based on the injuries sustained that the child had been severely beaten with a belt and other unknown objects. As a result of the beating, the child was left with severe scarring to the child’s lower extremities.
The child was taken into the custody by a Social Worker with Children’s Family Services. Harrison was arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center for Felony Child Abuse, and Child Endangerment. She is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
