CHINO HILLS – A Chino Hills homeowner held burglary suspects at gunpoint while waiting for deputies to arrive to make an arrest on Monday afternoon.
At around 1:05 p.m. Yan Zhang was at his home with his wife and children in the 13000 block of Gemstone Court. Mr. Zang and his family heard the suspects accessing the balcony of their home, which was located in their backyard. The suspects attempted to gain access to the home through the door. Mr. Zhang went to retrieve his handgun and confronted the five suspects.
A neighbor called 911 while Mr. Zhang held the suspects at gunpoint and his wife tended to their children. Two of the suspects fled, but were captured nearby when the deputy arrived on scene. Neighbors provided information to authorities leading to the arrest of Garret Rogers, 19, from Chino, Ruben Medivil, 19, from Chino, Roberto Alonso Salmon, 18, from Chino, Joaquin Leonard Salmon Garcia, 20, from Chino Hills and a 17-year-old male juvenile from Chino.
The adult suspects were booked into the West Valley Detention Center for attempted robbery and the juvenile was cited and released to his parents.
