A German man faces prison time for the death of his wife as a result of the two consummating their marriage.

The couple, Ralph Jankus, 52, and his wife Christel, 49, had a small, private ceremony, followed by an extended honeymoon. Following their 2018 wedding, the two participated in 48-hours of bondage, discipline, sadism, and masochism also referred to as BDSM. The sessions were not just “rough sex” as many would expect, they actually caused life-threatening injuries, leading to Christel’s death.

According to court documents, the two had extremely violent sex including Mr. Jankus shoving a barbed hook into Christel’s anus. The sharp hook led to a perforation of her bowel causing major internal injuries according to the medical examiner. Although Mr. Jankus knew his wife was injured, he claimed to authorities that he did not know that the injuries were serious. Four days after the injury, Mr. Jenkus called for emergency medical aid, but Christel died as a result of her internal injuries.

Mr. Jankus now faces manslaughter charges as a result of his wife’s death.
