TWIN PEAKS – A kidnapping victim and suspect were located thanks to K-9 Deja and her handler Deputy Josh Stone from the Rancho Cucamonga station.
The report was made at 1:17 a.m, and was initially reported as a runaway juvenile by the grandmother of the 16-year-old girl. She told deputies that her granddaughter was downstairs packing clothes when she heard her arguing with a male. The man was asked to leave the home. He did leave the home but took the victim with him.
Deputies searched places where the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Twin Peaks resident, Logan Padberg was known to frequent. While deputies searched, they received a report of a man dragging a screaming female into the woods. The man was reported to be holding a flashlight and dragging the female victim into the woods by her hair.
Deputies responded to the 26000 block of Lake Forest Drive at around 2:38 a.m. where they located fresh prints and drag marks. They tracked the prints as far as they could but requested the K-9 to assist. When the two arrived at the location they collected a few scent articles from the home of the victim. Deja immediately went into action tracking the scent of the girl from the drag marks. The scent led her through a wooded area to a home.
Deja followed the scent up to a home in the 26000 block of Boulder Lane where she stopped at the front door of the home. Deputies located the juvenile and the suspect inside the home. Padberg was arrested for kidnapping, domestic battery, and unlawful sex with a minor. The victim was released to her mother.
