BAKER – A man and teen from Los Angeles were arrested after carjacking a vehicle from the parking lot of the Baker Country Store.
On Saturday, September 22, 2018, at around 11:52 p.m., a victim called Sheriff’s Dispatch and reported that two unknown suspects had stolen his 2014 Toyota Camry. The victim told authorities that he was traveling through Baker and stopped to rest in the parking lot of the Baker Country Store, located at 72129 Baker Boulevard. Two suspects approached him, assaulted him, and used pepper spray to remove him from his vehicle.
At 12:45 a.m. a California Highway Patrol officer located the vehicle at a Chevron Gas Station near the incident location. Barstow Station deputies responded to the location where Daniel Eduardo Ayala, 28, the driver, and a 17-year-old male passenger detained. Deputies later determined that the suspects arrived at the store in a white 2008 Ford pickup truck that was reported stolen on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. Further investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in an armed robbery in the City of Arcadia on September 19, 2018.
Some of the items that were reported stolen during the robbery were located in the Ford truck. Ayala and the juvenile were arrested for carjacking and possession of a stolen vehicle and transported to the Barstow Jail and High Desert Juvenile Detention Center.
