Man Arrested for Assault on Deputy and Evading Arrest

MUSCOY – A 35-year-old man was arrested for evading and accelerating a vehicle towards a deputy, officials said. On Monday, August 1, 2016, at around 9:26 p.m. a Central Station Deputy attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle on Duffy Street near Ogden Street in Muscoy, a small unincorporated area just northwest of San Bernardino.

The vehicle, later determined to be stolen fled from the deputy, leading to a pursuit that traveled through Muscoy at high rates of speed, ignoring stop signs, even driving on the wrong side of traffic posing a risk to other drivers. The vehicle stopped briefly allowing the passenger out, where the unknown White or Hispanic man fled on foot.

The driver, Frederick Neely continued on in a reckless fashion while the deputy followed. The vehicle stopped abruptly in the flood control channel, The deputy told Neely to get out of the vehicle but he refused. When the deputy attempted to approach Neely to take him into custody, Neely accelerated toward the deputy.

Several rounds were fired striking Neely, who was taken into custody. Neely was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The second suspect is still at large.
