VICTORVILLE – Vigilant residents reported suspicious activity which led to the arrest of a 31-year-old alleged mail thief on Friday morning. At around 7:00 a.m. deputies from the Victorville station responded to the area of Mesa and Cabrillo Drives for a male subject who appeared to be removing mail from multiple mailboxes. When deputies arrived they located the suspect, later identified as 31-year-old David Montoya.
Deputies learned that Montoya had an active warrant for his arrest. During a search, deputies found mail and forged check in his possession. Deputies contacted those whose mail was found in Montoya’s possession and confirmed he did not have permission to have their mail or checks. He was transported to the High Desert Detention Center where during booking, he was found to have methamphetamine hidden on his person. He was booked into jail for the possession of forged checks and suspected narcotics.
