SAN BERNARDINO- 42-year-old Victor Angulo a gang member was convicted of killing another gang member and disposing of the body in a backyard.
On May 22,2013, San Bernardino Police officers were called to a residential home and discovered the decomposed body of 21-year-old Angel Cortez, of San Bernardino. The remains were found in a hole that was covered with a piece of plywood.
Deputy District Attorney Cecilia Joo prosecuted the case, stated that the victim was a member of a local gang and had come to the residential home to collect money from Angulo. The victim was collecting money for a credit card scheme involving the two gang members.
“The victim had come to the house several times on previous occasions threatening all the residents, including the defendant, “Joo said. “On this occasion, both men ended up getting into and argument. Cortez grabbed a pair of garden shears, lying around the house and lunged at Angulo, and then ran out the room.”
Angulo located a gun and shot Cortez in the back of his head as he ran out the front door of the residence.
Angulo has been scheduled for sentencing on December 12, 2016, at the San Bernardino Justice Center. He is facing 40 years to life in state prison.
