VICTORVILLE – Authorities confirmed that the woman killed by the hit-and-run Uhaul incident on Monday afternoon was in fact, one of the two suspects.
At around 1:47 p.m. deputies responded to the Rodeway Inn for the report of a Uhaul carjacking with one or more subjects injured. When they arrived deputies learned that Joshua Nelson, 32, of Victorville stole the U-Haul truck from the parking lot. As he was leaving, Jacqueline Spaulding, 31, of Hesperia attempted to get into the truck with him. As she was doing so the male victim, who rented the truck attempted to stop Nelson, but was tossed to the ground. Spaulding was run over and the truck fled. The truck was found abandoned near Culver Road and Joshua Street.
Spaulding, Nelson’s girlfriend, mother to his young daughter, and accomplice was rushed to Victor Valley Global Hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries. Friends of the couple said that she was pregnant at the time of the incident. The male victim was also treated for his injuries at the hospital but was released shortly after. An arrest warrant was issued for Nelson and on August 29, 2017, he was located and detained by the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division. Nelson will be booked at High Desert Detention Center for murder and carjacking.
