CAJON PASS, Calif. – One man was killed in a vehicle versus big rig crash on Thursday evening.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials said that at around 7:52 p.m. Jason LaFountain, 45, of Wildomar, was driving a white Ford F-150 northbound on the 15 freeway just south of SR-138. Benjamin Ortega, 38, of Yukon, Oklahoma was driving a 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer on the 15 freeway northbound, south of SR-138.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Ford allowed the vehicle to collide into the back of the 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Emergency personnel arrived and attempted to assist the driver of the pickup truck, but the driver succumbed at the scene. An unidentified woman passenger in the Freightliner was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
