BARSTOW, Calif. – A Riverside County woman wants to warn those who plan outdoor activities to be extra careful after he husband was shot after dirt bike riding in the Barstow area.
On Sunday, June 9, 2019, Devana Camé said that her husband and daughter went to the area of Hodge Road, near Barstow. When they were done they walked back to the trailer to put the dirt bikes back inside. “When he was about 2 feet from the trailer he felt like somebody had hit them over the shoulder with a hammer, he had no idea what happened he just knew he was in intense pain,” said Devana Camé in a Facebook post.
The pain made him bend forward, and when standing back up he noticed that there was blood on his shirt. He attempted to move his arm, but was unable to so he took himself to a local hospital. “He thought it might be a possibility that he had been shot but he had not seen another single person out there so he had no idea where it would’ve come from,” she added. The hospital said that he had, in fact, been shot and he was transported to a trauma center for a more advanced level of care.
The .308 bullet was removed from his shoulder and she said that no major damage was done. She said she really did not plan on posting but felt like it was her responsibility to warn others of the danger. She said that while you are out in the desert be aware that there are people who may be shooting. Also, for those shooting, they should be aware of what is behind their target.
