VICTORVILLE – The man who lost his life as a result of the collision on Palmdale Road near Emerald Road on Friday night has been identified as 47-year-old Raymond Christopher Ashe of Victorville.
At around 10:11 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2016, Ashe was the passenger of the of a black Toyota Echo that was hit from behind by a black Toyota Highlander SUV, driven by DUI driver, Florencio Arellanes Bernal of Adelanto.
The Echo, according to authorities, was driving eastbound on Palmdale Road occupied by two when it slowed down to make a left turn on Emerald Road. The Highlander following behind did not slow down and slammed into the back the Toyota causing major injuries to the driver and taking the life of Ashe. The driver of the Echo was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for the treatment of injuries.
The SUV rolled over several times and came to a rest in the eastbound lane of Palmdale Road, authorities said. The father of Ashe said on a Facebook post that his son had just left Walmart, where he purchased toys for needy children. “Chris was the type of person that would give his shirt off of his back to someone in need,” said his father, who he was named after.
Bernal was arrested for Gross Vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, Driving Under the Influence Causing Great Bodily Injury or Death, Driving Under the Influence Causing Great Bodily Injury or Death with BAC .08% or over and Driving Under the Influence of Combination of Drugs and Alcohol Causing Great Bodily Injury or Death. Arellanes Bernal according to arrest records was released on bail on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at around 11:50 p.m and has not court date scheduled at this time.
