LAKE ELSINORE – A 64-year-old Menifee man lost his life after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bike in the area of Railroad Canyon and Carnation Way in the City of Lake Elsinore. Just before 4:00 p.m. officers and CalFire responded to the vehicle versus bicyclist traffic collision. When they arrived at the scene they located a Honda Civic and the bicyclist lying in the roadway. Through investigation it was learned that the Honda was driving eastbound on Railroad Canyon when it collided with a bicyclist traveling northbound within the intersection.
The bicyclist died at the scene as a result of their injuries. The driver of the Honda was not injured and was cooperative during the investigation. The Traffic Reconstruction Team of the Lake Elsinore Police Department is investigating to determine the cause of the collision. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected contributing factors of the collision. The eastbound lanes of Railroad Canyon were closed for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation.
