VICTORVILLE – A concerned citizen saved the day for the family of a special needs 13-year-old girl.
The family had last seen the juvenile at their Far Hills Lane home at around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, and at 8:00 a.m. discovered she was missing. Although she is 13-years-old, the juvenile was reported to have the mental capacity of a younger child and had just moved from the City of Chino, causing her to be unfamiliar with the area.
The Victorville Station responded with several ground units, Sheriff’s Aviation and a K-9 unit to assist in finding the missing girl. Deputies spoke with security officers from a shopping center on Highway 395 and Palmdale Road, who had confirmed that she was there and that she was last seen walking westbound from the location.
A citizen located the girl at the AM/PM on Palmdale Road and took her to the Victorville Police Department. The girl was uninjured and her family was notified. “We wish to express our gratitude to the citizen that took the time to check on her and bring her to the station,” Victorville station officials said in a news release.
