Moreno Valley High School Placed on a Brief Lockdown Monday
MORENO VALLEY – Moreno Valley High School was placed on a brief lockdown on Monday morning due to the service of a search warrant authorities said. At around 9:30 a.m. officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department served a search warrant to a home in the 23000 block of Challis Court in the City of Moreno Valley. The officers made entry into the home and began their search. While searching, officers located a suspect, later identified only as a 17-year-old male juvenile, who was armed with a handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident and all suspects, including Mona Sanders and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested. Sanders was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for fraud-related charges and the juvenile was booked into juvenile Hall for Assault with a Deadly Weapon upon a Peace Officer, felon in possession of a firearm, and felon in possession of ammunition.
The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave per Department policy. The involved officer’s name will not be released at this time. Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. This is an active and on-going investigation.
