MORENO VALLEY – Details of a Sunday morning officer-involved shooting are unclear this evening. Riverside County Sheriff’s officials said that at 2:00 a.m. a Moreno Valley Police officer was patrolling the area of Canyonstone Drive and Stonebridge Court when he noticed a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle was driven by a man who parked the vehicle on the 15300 block of Canyonstone Drive. The officer made contact with the man and during this contact, the male suspect was shot. Sheriff’s officials are not releasing information as to what occurred leading up to the shooting.
Paramedics were called and the man was transported to the hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Per department protocol in officer-involved shootings the officer involved was placed on an administrative leave.
The officer was not injured and was not released. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Central Homicide Unit was called to the scene to investigate. The incident remains under investigation.
