MORONGO – A 28-year-old Morongo Basin Jail inmate was found dead in his cell on Tuesday night. At around 10:22 p.m. a deputy was conducting his hourly safety log when he found Joshua Andrew Pitts, of Twentynine Palms, handing in his jail cell. Authorities said that the deputy removed Pitts and put him on the floor. He immediately began CPR until medical aid arrived. When paramedics arrived, Pitts was determined to be dead at the scene.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded to conduct the investigation. Pitts was in custody since March 21st, for Violation of a Restraining Order. Pitts was housed alone in his cell. An autopsy will determine his cause of death.
