HESPERIA – The suspect who attempted to break into a home on Thursday night is in critical condition after being shot by the resident authorities said.
At around 10:32 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2018, deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to the 9000 block of Ponderosa Avenue reference the report of a burglary in progress. When deputies arrived at the home they found 36-year-old Hesperia resident, Michael Goode, who they learned was the suspect, lying in the front yard of the home suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Detectives responded to the scene and learned that Goode attempted to gain entry into the home while the residents were sleeping. “The adult male resident heard the disturbance and engaged in a verbal confrontation with Goode at the door,” Hesperia Sheriff’s Station officials said in a news release. “Goode continued to attempt entry to the house at which time the resident armed himself.” After arming himself, Goode continued to force entry into the home and the resident fired one round from his firearm striking Goode in his upper body. Goode attempted to run from the scene, but collapsed in the front yard as deputies arrived at the scene.
Goode was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in critical condition. No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Authorities said that the resident has cooperated with the investigation. Hesperia Station Detectives are continuing the investigation, processing the scene and conducting interviews. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jacob Laduke or Sergeant Doug Hubbard at the Hesperia Station, (760)947-1500.
