APPLE VALLEY, Ca. – A mother and her infant son died in a traffic collision on Sunday afternoon in the Town of Apple Valley.
At around 2:23 p.m. the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the area of Deep Creek and Poppy Roads for the report of a 2-vehicle traffic collision. When they arrived they located a Ford Crown Victoria and a Toyota Corolla. CHP officials said that the male driver of the Toyota Corolla was driving southbound when his vehicle veered into the northbound lane of Deep Creek causing the two vehicles to collide.
Jasmine Amesquita, 23, and her son, Ragnar Segovia, 5-months-old, both of Apple Valley were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment of major injuries. Three children were also injured as a result of the collision but are expected to fully recover. Jasmine was a mother of three boys, Ragnar, 5-months (deceased), Christian, 4, and Logan, 3. The father of her children just passed away two months ago, according to an aunt of Amesquita. The family is devastated with the loss of Jasmine and Ragnar. They are asking for donations from the community to help with the costs associated with their unexpected deaths.
